It is common to keep a guppy in a fish bowl, but it is highly inappropriate. A fish bowl is a round material that consists of curved glass. It harasses the fish to understand the environment since they perceive no clear vision. As a result, the guppies suffer from stress and suffer from food and hygiene lack. After a short while, guppies die.

However, there are some other reasons which we shall explain today. And surely you will be wise enough regarding the tank you should use to keep guppies as pets.

Can Guppies Live In A Bowl? – Learn The Convenience For The Guppy

Guppies are the most friendly fish every aquarist has at the beginning. In addition, they are sturdy fish that have an effective curing system.

Hence, they fall by any disease very often. However, everything should be in a manner, and so does the guppy petting.

Why Is Not A Bowl Appropriate?

Several reasons stand against a guppy’s standard. Some of the significant reasons are,

Shape Of The Bowl

A fish bowl is a round material that consists of curved glass. It harasses the fish to understand the environment since they perceive no clear vision.

Shape Of The Bowl

As a result, the guppies suffer from stress and suffer from food and hygiene lack. After a short while, guppies die.

Adequate Space

A fish bowl is not a pot to keep a guppy inside it. Due to its shape, it can consist of scarce water. It can barely hold 2 litres of water, whereas a couple of guppies require at least 10 litres. So, we can say, guppies can survive in a fish bowl but cannot live there happily.

In addition, guppies are one of the fishes which are live bearers. If they desire to fulfill their spawning, they can’t go due to the lack of space. As a result, guppies die. It means they lay their fries instead of eggs.

Oxygen Level

Inadequate space means inadequate water and Oxygen. It is hard to install an oxygen pump or any airflow system that helps the water increase oxygen levels. In addition, most of us are entirely unaware of this process.

If you choose a bigger tank for pet guppies, the water will generate Oxygen by reacting with the air. Therefore, due to the lack of Oxygen, guppies die.

Breeding Requirement

We already mentioned that guppies are live-bearers. They release their fries instead of eggs. It helps the fries to hide, which is their natural habit of avoiding the predictors. And to fulfill their breeding process, they require plenty of space with a few bush-like environments.

If you use a fish bowl and the guppies release fries, it will stress the fries enormously. Hence, the fries will no longer be able to survive for a short period.

Temperature Has No Control

A fishbowl is a small tank which cannot bear more than 2 or 3 litres of water. When the environment changes, the water temperature inside the fishbowl also changes.

Therefore, maintaining a consistent temperature in a fishbowl is pretty much impossible. And the perfect temperature for guppies is 25° to 28° C.

How Can You Keep Guppy Happy?

The wisest way to keep any fish is the planted aquarium. When you are petting guppies, it is a must-do thing. However, here are some vital points you must follow to keep guppies happy.

Tank Shape And Size

The tank shape that helps the guppies to have a happy life is cubic. In addition, for two guppies, you will need 15 litres of water.

If you add more guppies, increase the tank and water volume. For a new guppy, add one gallon of water.

Tank Environment

Guppies are sturdy fish, but they also require a freshwater environment. Guppies are naturally habituated to hiding themselves behind the bushes to avoid predators.

A tank with several medium-sized rocks and plants is the ideal option to own. And the same rule applies to the fries.

Temperature Control

When your tank is adequate for guppies, your temperature remains controlled due to the amount of water. The ideal temperature for guppies is 25° to 28° C.

FAQ’s

Here are some confusions from the guppy petters that may help you enormously.

How do you keep guppies alive in a bowl?

Bowl is not a wise option to obtain to keep any type of fish. You can only keep guppies in a bowl while cleaning the tank.

However, the tank must consist of 5 gallons of water to keep a couple of guppies happy, and it is not possible if you use a bowl.

Can guppies live in a bowl without an air pump?

Absolutely not. The bowl has a significantly meagre space that is not adequate for guppies.

Moreover, it lacks Oxygen a lot. If you attach an air pump, the guppies will survive but not live happily. They will be going through stress and eventually die.

Conclusion

Guppies are immensely popular for their friendly behavior and naturally sturdy abilities. But the answer is always no; if you are still asking, can guppies live in a bowl? Not only for guppies, but a fishbowl is never a wise option for any fish.
